LA-based content creation platform Tongal has reached a new milestone, generating more than US$100 million in lifetime earnings for 160,000-plus independent creators and studios.
Co-founders James DeJulio, Rob Salvatore and Mark Burrell launched Tongal in 2009 as an alternative route for studios, producers and brands to connect with talented creators working in 175 countries worldwide. To date, 10 of Tongal’s most successful creators have earned more than US$1 million, and hundreds more have made US$100,000 from media project collaborations that have used the platform to resource projects, says DeJulio.
This milestone announcement comes on the heels of a group of Tongal creators finishing production work on the platform’s first feature film contract. The LEGO Group recruited more than 100 members in March 2020 to craft storyboards, scenes and marketing materials for Piece By Piece (pictured), a CG-animated Pharrell Williams biopic.
Tongal’s client base also includes NBCUniversal (Back to the Future: Reimagined), The Pokémon Company (Pokémon Go marketing campaign) and Sony Pictures Entertainment (Venom: The Last Dance poster design project).
