Library platform hoopla has revealed which digital titles were borrowed the most times this year in the US.
Using data from more than 10,000 public libraries, the company compiled lists for multiple content categories, including e-books, audiobooks, comics, music, films and TV shows.
Looking at e-book series, the kids publishing world was well-represented, with Harry Potter (JK Rowling), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Jeff Kinney), Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Rick Riordan) and The Food Group (Jory John) all making the top-five cut.
The Wizarding World also made its mark in the audio categories. It was one of the most-borrowed audiobook series this year, with lead title Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (pictured) cracking into the overall top-five audiobook list. The franchise has remained consistently popular, but it’s possible that the news of Warner Bros. Discovery’s upcoming Harry Potter live-action TV series is generating even more heat for the books right now.
And finally, this year’s most-borrowed comic books included kids titles like Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1, Primer and Transformers Vol. 1.
Brad Rose, hoopla’s VP of content strategy, notes that “2024 was a great year for e-books and audiobooks—we saw borrows increase in both formats compared to 2023.”
