On the heels of putting a third season of crowdfunded animated series The Wingfeather Saga (13 x 25 minutes) into production recently, Utah’s Angel Studios has just struck a deal to produce, develop and distribute Fablehaven, a new family feature film based on a same-name bestselling tween book series by US author Brandon Mull.

In pre-production now and on track to start filming at the end of next summer, this live-action pic will adapt the first of five Fablehaven books—and the goal is to eventually do them all. Angel Studios plans to premiere the lead film theatrically in 2026.

Mull’s Fablehaven books—which were released annually from 2006 to 2010 by publisher Shadow Mountain—revolve around two siblings who stumble upon a magic preserve for mythical creatures that happens to be run by their grandparents. It’s up to the kids to save the day when goblins kidnap their grandfather and an evil witch threatens to unleash a demon into the world.

This popular kidlit franchise has sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide, as well as spawning a five-part sequel book series called Dragonwatch (pictured). Mull has also penned other kids and YA titles such as The Candy Shop War (2007) and the Beyonders trilogy (2011 to 2013).
