- Fat Brain Toys alum Dan Huter has joined Texas-based toy wholesaler Diverse Marketing as director of specialty toy sales. Huter had been working at Le Toy Van as a sales director since March, and prior to that he spent seven years at Fat Brain Toys, most recently in a director of specialty sales role.
- US retailer Kohl’s has appointed Ashley Buchanan (pictured) to take the reins as its new CEO, starting on January 15. He will replace Tom Kingsbury, who has agreed to stay on in an advisory capacity until he retires in May. Buchanan previously headed up arts-and-crafts supplies retailer Michaels as CEO, and he also worked at Walmart for a decade in roles including VP of Wal-Mart Innovations and SVP of snacks and beverages. He’s now tasked with steering Kohl’s out of a continued sales decline. Earlier this week, the retailer posted US$3.5 billion in net sales for Q3, which represents an 8.8% year-over-year drop.
- As it looks to bolster its presence in the US, AMAV Toys (which makes and distributes kids activity kits featuring things like sewing, baking and rock painting) has named Steve Markey as VP of sales and marketing for North America. With decades of sales experience under his belt, Markey has previously worked for companies including Hog Wild Toys, WYNCOR, Wham-O and Green Toys.
