After more than three months of negotiations, The Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839) reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on November 22 that addresses its key demands for wage increases and AI protections (namely, provisions around notifying and consulting staffers about its use). If the new deal is ratified, wage increases will play out as follows: 7% in year one, 4% in year two and 3.5% in year three.
Additional gains TAG achieved for the 5,000-plus artists, technicians, writers and production workers it represents include health and pension fund increases, remote work protections, bereavement leave, additional sick days, Juneteenth (June 19) as a holiday, and a minimum staffing framework for writers.
The AMPTP represents more than 350 TV and film production houses, including Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures and Netflix, and its collective agreement with TAG must be renegotiated every three years.
The next step is for Animation Guild members to vote on ratifying the agreement.
