The 2024 International Emmy Awards took place in New York last night, awarding prizes in three kids entertainment categories to recognize outstanding work produced outside of the US in the past year.

Magic Light Pictures’ 25-minute holiday special Tabby McTat (pictured) took home this year’s Best Kids Animation award. A book adaptation about a singing cat trying to find his way back to his owner, it debuted on BBC One/BBC iPlayer last December and reached a total UK audience of 8.6 million viewers, according to statistics from Barb Audiences.

Magic Light has already won four times in this Emmy category with previous specials Room on the Broom, Revolting Rhymes, Zog and The Smeds and the Smoos. And the London-based studio had another reason to celebrate yesterday—Tabby McTat was announced as a 2025 Kidscreen Awards nominee in the “Preschool Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie” preschool programming category

The International Emmy for Best Kids Factual went to The Secret Life of Your Mind (La Vida Secreta de tu Mente) from Mexico’s Pictoline and Warner Bros. Discovery. This 2D-animated miniseries digs into the inner workings of the human brain and landed on HBO Max LatAm in November 2023.

And finally, Denmark’s Apple Tree Productions scored a Kids Live-Action win with One of the Boys (En af Drengene). This coming-of-age series revolves around a socially awkward boy who attends a camp to prove he’s a “real man,” but ends up falling for another male camper.
