London’s Coolabi Group is partnering with Paris-based Superprod Group to adapt the popular Beast Quest books into a small-screen project aimed at six- to 10-year-olds.

This CG-animated, 26 x 30-minute series will explore the source material’s fantastical storylines about two besties, Tom and Elenna, who must help free beasts that have been cursed by an evil wizard and help restore peace to the Kingdom of Avantia. The books feature a variety of beasts, including a fire dragon, a snow monster, a three-headed lion and a water snake—all of whom reward Tom with a magical gift as a reward for freeing them from the wizard’s spells.

Rights owner Coolabi is co-developing the toon with Superprod, which will produce the project through its many subsidiaries—including Superprod Animation (France), Red Monk Studio (Italy), The Coproduction Company (US), Wheel in Motion (UK) and Melusine (Luxembourg).

Penned by multiple authors under the pseudonym of Adam Blade, the Beast Quest books have proven immensely popular. Since the first title was published by Orchard Books in 2007, the series has sold more than 24 million copies worldwide across 180 titles (with roughly two million copies sold in the last three years alone).

Coolabi has previously expanded the IP into other extensions beyond the bookshelf, including UK-based live shows (Beast Quest Live), a mobile game and a console game
