PlayStation games studio Team Asobi has received seven nominations from The Game Awards for its family-friendly adventure game Astro Bot—tying with Square Enix’s role-playing game Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the most nods this year.
Launched in September, Asobi’s third entry in its Astro Bot series follows the titular robot as he explores various PlayStation-themed worlds and levels, seeking to repair the missing pieces of his spaceship. The title has sold more than 1.5 million copies to date.
Astro Bot is in the race to take home Game of the Year, competing against Final Fantasy (Square Enix), Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (FromSoftware) and Metaphor: Refantazio (SEGA). And it’s also in the running for Best Family Game, facing off against a trio of Nintendo-published titles—Princess Peach: Showtime!, Super Mario Party Jamboree and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Astro Bot is also nominated for Best Art Direction, Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Audio Design and Best Score/Music.
Other kids-adjacent titles on the shortlist include Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket (The Pokémon Company International/Creatures Inc.) vying for Best Mobile Game, and Star Wars Outlaws (Massive Entertainment/Ubisoft) for Best Action/Adventure Game. The Game Awards’ 10th annual ceremony will take place on December 12 at LA’s Peacock Theatre.
