Germany’s Toon2Tango and Odeon Fiction are teaming up to co-produce an animated family feature film called Paluten Freedom, which is based on a collection of 382 YouTube videos created by Minecraft gamer Patrick Meyer (better known as Paluten) that have racked up more than 76 million views to date.

Plot details are not available yet, but the film will feature Paluten, his pig sidekick Edgar, and other characters from his gaming world including Professor Duck, Dieter, Karla, Captain Greasepants and Evil Paluten. Odeon and Toon2Tango’s owner Leonine Studios will distribute the movie in German-speaking markets and has earmarked 2027 for its theatrical release.

This is not the first franchise extension for Paluten. Meyer, who launched his YouTube channel in 2012 (and has since racked up 5.46 million subscribers), leveraged his video game vlogging brand into a publishing deal six years ago to co-author nine Paluten Freedom books with writer Klaas Kern. Aimed at readers ages 10 and up, these titles have collectively sold more than 1.8 million copies in German-speaking markets.
