Disney is cutting ties with Canal+

The French pay-TV operator's 26.8 million subscribers will lose access to Disney+ and all of Disney's linear channels and movies on January 1, 2025.

Disney has announced plans to remove its streamer, channels and content from French broadcaster Canal+’s offering at the beginning of 2025

Canal+ was instrumental in helping to launch Disney+ in the French market in 2019, and even signed an exclusive agreement with Disney that same year to broadcast feature films from Marvel, Pixar, 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky six months after their theatrical premieres. Following this change in strategy, Disney movies will now make their way onto Disney+ in France after a 17-month waiting period.

Despite the massive blow of losing Disney’s platforms and content, Canal+ CEO Gérald-Brice Viret remains optimistic, saying that only a marginal number of its 26.8 million subscribers consumed the content regularly, adding that they prefer MAX, Netflix, Apple TV and Paramount+.
