Disney Branded Television has ordered two new music-driven comedy series to launch on Disney Channel and Disney+ sometime next year.
How We Became the Biggest Band in the World (working title) sees three members of a super-famous pop group look back at their careers and reminisce about becoming friends in middle school before going on to conquer the music industry. Also greenlit is a new concept inspired by Chris Nee’s animated preschool series Vampirina (working title). It tracks a tween vampire who leaves Transylvania to live with humans at an artsy boarding school in order to pursue her love of music.
Both series boast elements that are perennially popular with kids, says DBT president Ayo Davis—aspirational characters, upbeat music and friendship themes.
Eric Friedman (Bizaardvark) is the showrunner and executive producer behind How We Became. Also an EP, songwriter Diane Warren, who has worked in the past with Celine Dion and Cher, has contributed several tracks that will be featured in the pilot.
The new Vampirina project’s showrunner and executive producer is writer/producer Randi Barnes (That Girl Lay Lay, Doc McStuffins), with Tim Federle (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) on board as an EP as well.
