Australian kids author Anh Do’s Wolf Girl book series has a new movie and international publishing deal in the works.

Teaming up on the IP’s big-screen adaptation are LA-based Foundation Media Partners and actor Rose Byrne’s Dollhouse Pictures shingle. Foundation CEO Patrick Hughes and COO Harvey Russell will produce the pic with Byrne, but no details are available yet on its format or release date.

Do’s five-year-old book series—which now spans 12 titles—targets tween readers with a premise about a young girl who survives in the wilderness with the help of some newfound canine companions, including a wolf cub, a labrador, a chihuahua and a greyhound.

Allen & Unwin publishes the Wolf Girl books in Australia, where they have sold more than a million copies to date. And the franchise is slated to hit the North American market next March, published by HarperCollins. A Vietnamese-born Australian author/actor/comedian, Do is also behind other popular children’s books series such as Ninja Kid, Skydragon and WeirDo.

This project aligns with Foundation’s promising track record for kids book adaptations. The studio’s credits include Netflix musical Thelma the Unicorn and DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys, which generated more than US$250 million in ticket sales.

Clearly ramping up this strategy, Foundation also locked down a first-look deal with Simon & Schuster in September to develop animated TV series and films based on its publishing catalogue.
