One of America’s leading fast-food chains is getting into the entertainment game with a free app designed for kids and families. Chick-fil-A Play will roll out on November 18, featuring original animated programming, podcasts, games, eBooks and recipes.

In the content mix is a CG-animated fantasy series called Legends of Evergreen Hills (10 x 22 minutes) that’s about a young girl who discovers a secret world where she learns to harness a mysterious power source. Chick-fil-A previously launched a collection of two-minute segments based on this IP, as well as a short film titled The Spark Tree that has been viewed 141 million times since last November. Irish studio Giant Animation is attached to the series.

The app will also feature several CG-animated Chick-Fil-A Cows shorts (pictured, five minutes each) based on the QSR chain’s bovine mascots. As with Evergreen Hills, Chick-fil-A has already tested these on YouTube, where one of the shorts has racked up 31 million views since July 2023. Bento Box Atlanta produced Chick-Fil-A Cows with London-based Blinkink and Norway’s Saurus Animation.

Chick-fil-A teased other offerings that will be featured on the app at launch, including Hidden Island (a podcast about a family stranded at sea) and a game called Guess and Giggle. According to Deadline, a family game show from LA’s Glassman Media and Sugar23 is also in the works.

Content on Chick-fil-A Play will go heavy on co-viewing appeal, says Dustin Britt, executive director of brand strategy. “[We’re] reimagining play for our guests in a unique way through entertainment that really encourages time together.”
