- Mercury Filmworks has partnered with La Chouette Compagnie to develop a 2D-animated teen/YA series based on a concept from Hilda producer/director Andy Coyle that Mercury has been testing on YouTube. Don’t Walk Home Alone (12 x 13 minutes) will be a horror anthology exploring new spooky folklore in each episode. With just three videos available, the IP’s YouTube channel has attracted 210,000 subscribers since launching in 2022, generating more than nine million total views.
- Serious Kids has acquired global distribution rights outside of the UK to Happy Town Productions’ namesake preschool series Happy Town. Originally commissioned by Sky Kids in February, this 2D-animated toon (50 x seven minutes) is in production and should wrap by early 2025.
- Disney has tapped graphic novel publisher Dynamite Entertainment to produce Zootopia’s first ongoing comic book series. Launching in January, its issues will set up a sequel story that starts where the 2016 CG-animated feature film left off and lays the groundwork for Zootopia 2, which is due to hit US theaters in November 2025.
- MINISO and Warner Bros. Discovery have launched Harry Potter pop-up stores in Hong Kong and the US this week. Open until the end of the month, these brick-and-mortar outlets feature more than 500 licensed products from the Wizarding World, spanning collectible blind-boxes, plush, stationery, bags and accessories. MINISO plans to repeat this experiment in the UK, Indonesia and Malaysia next.
