Fledgling Spanish distribution outfit Liquid Rock Entertainment and MGA Entertainment’s Pixel Zoo studio have teamed up to co-produce a CG-animated adaptation of The Secret Explorers, a 13-volume book series that has sold more than a million English-language copies worldwide since launching in 2020.
London’s Coolabi Group owns the rights to this literary IP for kids ages seven and up, and Penguin Random House is planning to translate the books into 17 additional languages next year. As part of this co-pro deal, MGA will manage global toy rights for the brand.
Aging the original premise down to hit bridge viewers ages four to seven, Liquid Rock and Pixel Zoo will introduce their 52 x seven-minute TV concept to buyers at MIPCOM later this month. It tags along with a team of young heroes who adventure across space, oceans and deserts, using tech suits and gadgets to fix problems around the world.
The Secret Explorers is the first co-production to be slated at Liquid Rock, which was co-founded by Xavi Mas and Roberto Mitrani in September. Earlier this month, the duo picked up global distribution rights to an upcoming CG-animated series called Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom (52 x seven minutes) from Magicbox and Filmax.
