Canada’s Green Ghost Media has partnered with French studio Tiktak Production to develop and co-produce a pair of animated series.
Heading into production now and aiming for delivery in 2025 is a 2D-animated preschool comedy called Wonder Whiskers (52 x 11 minutes, pictured left) about five city kittens enrolled in Smarty Cat Academy, whose students are in training to become future community leaders. Green Ghost owner/president Randy Young says the team is in talks with a European distributor that will contribute financing.
The second series, currently in development, is a tween-skewing adaptation of French YA novel Wolfnight—L’élue d’Algatia by Charlotte LaFourcade. This premise revolves around a high-school student who suddenly discovers that she’s heir to the fantastical world of Owana—plunging her into an epic battle against powerful sorcerers known as Wolfnights.
The project’s format isn’t set in stone yet, but Young says the plan is to create a “2.5D-animated” look similar to Netflix’s The Dragon Prince. And Green Ghost and TikTak are working to lock down a global distribution deal by the end of the year.
Both studios are Black-owned companies, and their partnership should create more pathways for marginalized creators in the business. Young will serve as co-executive producer, director and co-writer on both projects.
