WildBrain has rejigged its TV and distribution leadership ranks, shifting two experienced execs into new positions.
Brian Cuff is expanding his remit with WildBrain Television to serve as VP & GM of WildBrain Television. Cuff, who was formerly WildBrain Television’s VP of channel distribution and strategic partnerships, reports to CEO and president Josh Scherba. He’ll oversee the company’s four Canadian TV channels—Family Channel, Family Jr., WildBrain TV and Télémagino—managing day-to-day operations, revenue, business development and relationships with channel distributors and regulators.
Cuff, who has been at WildBrain for nine years, used to be a VP of distribution at Sony Pictures Television in Canada.
WildBrain has also realigned its distribution team. Most significantly, Katie Wilson’s role has changed from VP of channels and acquisitions to VP of global sales and acquisitions. Leading the content sales team, Wilson’s new mandate is to steer commercial and rights strategies, oversee sales revenue, and manage US transactional rights and distribution. Wilson will continue to be the day-to-day point of contact on TV commissions, with the ultimate responsibility for greenlights sitting with Cuff. Reporting to Kate Smith, EVP of audience engagement, Wilson is also in charge of third-party content acquisitions.
Wilson joined WildBrain in 2020, on the heels of working at Corus for about a decade, first as a scheduling manager for Teletoon and then as a director of programming for all of its kids & family networks. At WildBrain, Wilson commissioned The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy, Ruby and the Well and an upcoming Degrassi documentary series co-pro with Peacock Alley.
In other sales team news, Darcee McCartney has been upped from sales manager to director of sales, reporting to Wilson and overseeing Canada, LatAm & Spanish-speaking US, Australia & New Zealand, the Nordics, Russia/CIS, Central Eastern Europe, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Israel. And working under her is newly promoted sales manager Rachel Julkowski, who will handle Asia (excluding China), the Middle East, Africa and the in-flight entertainment market.
WildBrain currently has more than 14,000 half hours of kids & family content in its catalogue, and several team members—including Wilson, McCartney and Julkowski—will be at MIP Junior and MIPCOM next month selling it.
