  • Fremantle is heading into the woods with Duplass Brothers Productions’ Penelope (pictured), acquiring worldwide distribution rights to the live-action teen series about a 16-year-old girl who feels out of place in modern society and builds a life for herself in the wilderness. The eight x 30-minute series is set to launch on Netflix in the US tomorrow (September 24).

  • Banijay Kids & Family has lined up Spacetoon Licensing to represent the consumer products and live entertainment business interests of Italian brand Topo Gigio in the Middle East. This helpful mouse character started off as a puppet in 1959, and Banijay Movimenti Production turned him into a 2D-animated preschool series for RAI in 2020.

  • The Walt Disney Company Nordic & Baltic and Swedish broadcaster Tele2 have partnered to launch the first Disney+ bundle in Sweden. Starting tomorrow, Tele2’s TV and streaming customers will have access to Disney+ as part of their subscriptions. Tele2 is one of the biggest Swedish telecom companies, earning US$2.8 billion in revenue last year, and this deal should help both companies engage more viewers in the regional market.
