Vancouver-based developer Kabam will shut down servers supporting its mobile RPG title Disney Mirrorverse on December 16.
The team removed the game from Android and iOS app stores and disabled in-app purchases this week. But those who have already downloaded it can continue playing until the shutdown.
This news follows closely behind a similar announcement made last month about the Harry Potter: Magic Awakened game from WB Games and Chinese developer NetEase.
Mirrorverse launched worldwide in June 2022. For the uninitiated, it’s a role-playing game in which Mickey Mouse assembles a team of protectors in a parallel universe to safeguard the Stellar Mirror. Players can unlock “alternate” versions of other well-known Disney characters to join the fight, including Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story) and Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean).
No reason was cited for the closure of Mirrorverse, though there’s speculation that revenue has seen a sharp decline—PocketGamer cites AppMagic’s estimates that the game made US$5.8 million in June 2022, but only US$273,000 last month.
Leading up to the title’s eventual deactivation, the Mirrorverse team has confirmed that more content will be released on the app over the next few months to wrap up its ongoing storyline, with characters such as Cinderella and Jafar expected to make their in-game debuts soon.
Kabam previously worked with Disney on games like Star Wars: Uprising and Marvel Contest of Champions.
