Adventure Time and Marvel’s What If…? win Creative Arts Emmys

And Ron Howard’s family-friendly doc Jim Henson Idea Man takes the trophy for Outstanding Motion Design.

The Television Academy has announced the winners in a handful of categories, including animation, for the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and a trio of family-friendly projects will get to claim their golden statues. 

What If…? – An Immersive Story (pictured) won for Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming. The virtual-reality game for the Apple Vision Pro from Marvel Studios, ILM Immersive and Disney+ lets players explore different settings in the Marvel universe, meeting different characters along the way. 

The win for Outstanding Motion Design went to Jim Henson Idea Man from Image Documentaries, Disney Branded Television and Disney+. Ron Howard directed this documentary about Henson and his career, including creating and building the iconic properties The Muppets and Sesame Street. 

Meanwhile, the older-skewing series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake (HBO/Max and Cartoon Network Studios) won an award for Character Animation in the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation category for its episode “The Winter King.”

Juried category entries are screened by a panel of professionals that includes animators, costume designers, and motion and title creators.The full list of winners is available on the Emmys website. The Television Academy will present the awards at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 7 and 8.
