New Jersey-based comic book publisher Dynamite Entertainment is expanding its partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) by adding five new licenses to its portfolio.
Under the expanded agreement, which was announced at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, Dynamite will adapt WBD’s 2D-animated cartoon series Ben 10 (2005, pictured), Captain Planet (1990), Thundarr the Barbarian (1980), Dynomutt & Blue Falcon (1976) and The Herculoids (1967) into comic books. The new monthly issues will begin to roll out to comic book shops and specialty retailers across North America later this year and continue through 2025.
While at the convention, Dynamite also revealed that 30-year comic veteran Tom Sniegoski (Billy Hooten: Owl Boy and Wolverine/ Punisher: Revelation) will pen The Herculoids comic book (the publisher will announce the illustrator at a later date). The comic will be based on the Hanna-Barbera sci-fi cartoon series from the ’60s that follows the adventures of a family of space barbarians who protect their planet from evil robots, mad scientists and other foes who threaten their way of life.
Since inking its first comic book deal with WBD last October, Dynamite has produced new monthly running comics for several WB-owned properties, including The Powerpuff Girls and Space Ghost. The publisher reports that its ThunderCats series is one of its best-performing WBD-licensed titles, with the first issue of the comic book selling more than 170,000 copies in its first print run.
