IFC Films has locked in a US theatrical release plan for stop-motion film Memoir of a Snail, which will premiere in a limited run on October 25, and then roll out wider in November.
Australia’s Arenamedia produced this kid-friendly stop-motion film that wowed audiences at Annecy last month and took home the festival’s top award, the Cristal Prize for best feature. Its story focuses on a lonely young snail collector who finds happiness again when she befriends an eccentric old lady.
Memoir of a Snail was directed by Aussie filmmaker Adam Elliot, who won an Oscar for Best Animated Short in 2004 with Harvie Krumpet, and Annecy’s Cristal Prize for Mary and Max in 2009.
Melbourne-based Madman Entertainment is the film’s Australian distributor, and has already set October 17 as its domestic release date.
