Paying tribute to outstanding creative and technical work in animation and motion design across a variety of disciplines including television and film, the Collision Awards has announced its inaugural winners.
Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was the biggest film winner, racking up 16 gold honors in craft categories such as art direction, 3D/CG animation, character design, directing and storyboarding.
Paramount Pictures flick Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem wasn’t far behind, with 12 film craft wins for art direction, writing, 3D/CG animation, directing, editing, music, storyboarding and voice acting.
Disney Pixar’s Elemental received 10 gold honors in art direction, 3D/CG animation, character animation, directing and storyboarding. And Walt Disney Animation Studios also picked up two television series gold awards in craft for Iwájú (fantasy & sci-fi series and production design).
Speaking of TV, Star Trek: Prodigy (Paramount+),The Loud House (Nickelodeon) and The Mindful Adventures of Unicorn Island (Headspace) all walked away with gold honors in kids & family series. And Nick also grabbed a gold in editing for its “Purim” holiday-themed episode of Rugrats.
Corus Entertainment-owned studio Nelvana grabbed a pair of golds in preschool series for Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go and Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe, and an additional gold in the holiday & seasonal television category for Super Wish: A Barthdae Carole/Christmas in Decemburg.
Fellow Canadian prodco Guru Studio also did well in the TV stream, with its comedy-adventure series Big Blue coming up golden in 2D animation and character design.
This year’s Collision Awards winners collectively represented talent from more than 30 countries, and their work will be celebrated with a special screening event and reception at Lincoln Center in New York on July 23.
The Collision Awards were established earlier this year under the leadership of GM Randeep Katari and in partnership with The Telly Awards. This year’s jury included Aardman executive creative director Sarah Cox; Skybound Animation Studio head and Women in Animation president Marge Dean; Baobab Studios CEO Maureen Fan; Paramount Animation and Nick Animation president Ramsey Naito; and Locksmith Animation co-founder and president of production Julie Lockhart.
