Sessions to make time for at Comic-Con 2024

DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, Disney+, Paramount+ and Warner Bros. Animation are among the studios showcasing new kids projects at this year's fan fest.

With Comic-Con 2024’s July 25 start date quickly approaching, attendees can now dig into the panel lineup and plan their week around must-attend sessions. Adult- and teen-focused franchises are likely to generate the most buzz, but there are plenty of options for those interested in hearing from creators and stars of kids TV series and movies. We’ve rounded up some of them here:

Transformers One (pictured) – Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment are hosting a panel discussion and exclusive footage presentation for fans with Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Keegan-Michael Key, along with Oscar-winning director Josh Cooley and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. (July 25 at 11:45 a.m.)

DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild RobotOscar-nominated writer/director Chris Sanders, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and Heartstopper‘s Kit Connor will talk about the adaptation of Peter Brown’s kids book series for kids ages eight and up. (July 27 at 4:00 p.m.) 

Celebrating 25 years of SpongeBob SquarePants: This Nickelodeon panel includes a live table read of the “Help Wanted” episode by voice cast members Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), with participation from executive producers Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller. (July 25 at 1:00 p.m.)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Moderated by Jay Duplass (Hades), this panel for the Disney+ live-action show will include Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Jonathan Steinberg (co-creator and executive producer) and Dan Shotz (executive producer). (July 25 at 2:15 p.m.)

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Actors who play Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey in the new Paramount+ series will make an appearance, along with the show’s producers. (July 25 at 2:15 p.m.)

Spike and Mike’s All-Ages Festival of Animation: Presenting a collection described as “hilarious and artistic award-winning films from around the world.” (July 25 at 10:00 a.m.) 

The History of Peanuts in Animation: A panel featuring Rob “Boots” Boutilier (Camp Snoopy showrunner), EPs Paige Braddock (chief creative officer, Charles M. Schultz Creative Associates) and Stephanie Betts (EVP, content creation, WildBrain), Caleb Bellavance (voice of Franklin in Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home Franklin), Jason Mendelson (Lee Mendelson Film Productions) and Todd Barbee (voice of Charlie Brown in A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving) will discuss the franchise’s animation evolution. (July 25 at 10:00 a.m.) 

Rainbow Brite: 40 Years of Happiness: This session promises a look back and a taste of what’s to come for the color-centric doll franchise. (July 25 at 12:30 p.m.) 

My Adventures with Superman Screening Presentation and Panel: Scheduled presenters on tap to talk about this Warner Bros. Animation property include executive producers Jake Wyatt, Josie Campbell and Brendan Clogher, plus voice cast members Jack Quaid, Alice Lee and Ishmel Sahid. (July 27 at 10:00 a.m.) 

Comic-Con is also running a handful of panels designed to give showgoers an inside look at what it takes to create and launch properties: 

Adapting Popular Franchises to Animation:  Lex+Otis Studios founder Jay Oliva (Raid: Shadow Legends, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns), producer Tanya Yuson (Trese), executive producer/director Gary Hartle (New Looney Tunes, Stillwater), concept artist/character designer Jojo Aguilar (Infinity, Green Eggs and Ham, Dilbert), and casting/voice director Wes Gleason (Batman: The Killing Joke) offer advice, tips and tricks on successfully switching mediums. (July 27 at 11:30 a.m.) 

Contracts, Creators and Protecting Legal Rights: Advice from comics creators and Comic Book Legal Defense Fund board members Amy Chu, Joseph Illidge, Dale Cendali and Jeff Trexler. (July 27 at 12:00 p.m.)

Indie Toy Makers Unite!: A conversation about designing, crowdfunding and manufacturing your own toys and action figures with Brian Flynn (Super7), Bill Murphy (Fresh Monkey Fiction), Gavin Hignight and Doc Wyatt (Wandering Planet Toys), Chris Scott (Grindhouse Toys) and Doug Murphy (Plasticgod Toys). Moderated by Jordan Hammer (Instagram and YouTube’s Toyshiz) and Rich Mayerik (Toys That Made Us, The Secret Compartment Show). (July 27 at 12:00 p.m.) 

Creating Sci-Fi and Fantasy Worlds on an Indie Budget: Two-time Leo Award-winning VFX supervisor Chris Browne (Stargate), Emmy-winning VFX supervisor Mark Nazal (Gotham), VFX art director Kino Scialabba (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Sean O’Reilly (CEO of Arcana Studios) discuss getting the biggest bang for your VFX budget.
