WildBrain CPLG and lifestyle products manufacturer Bo Friends have partnered with South Korea’s Lotte Duty Free to launch the retailer’s first Snoopy-themed pop-up shop in Seoul.
The Snoopy Market opened its doors at the Lotte Department Store Main shopping mall earlier this week and will stay open until August 14. It features more than 500 licensed products from Bo Friends’ catalogue, including Snoopy keychains, Woodstock tumblers and exclusive Peanuts character plush and collectible figures.
There are also several photo zones and rest areas where visitors can take pictures with life-size versions of the Peanuts gang. And an assortment of Snoopy-themed marshmallow ice cream, cookies and drinks are the cherry on top of the retail experience.
Lotte Duty Free’s head of new growth business Nam Gung-pyo says the company is on the lookout for other characters and entertainment brands (appealing to domestic and foreign consumers of all ages) to develop similar themed pop-up shops around. He also notes that the retailer’s last pop-up featuring Lotte’s original Bellygom pink teddy bear attracted more than 1,000 visitors every day from April to May this year.
According to Statista, South Korea’s tourism industry is showing signs of recovery after its visitor volume fell by more than 85% during the pandemic. The country welcomed more than 11 million travelers last year, although this is still short of its all-time peak of 17.5 million visitors in 2018.
