Aussie animation studio Flying Bark Productions is opening a new hub in Madrid to tap into local incentives and expand the company’s talent pool.
With a 600-person team already in place, Flying Bark is behind the 100% Wolf TV series and film, as well as upcoming ABC Australia toon Tales from Outer Suburbia. Its outpost in Madrid will help the company benefit from Spain’s rebate of up to 30% for foreign animation productions with a qualifying spend of US$200,000. Studio supervisor Ramon Giráldez (Piggy Tales, Stella) has been charged with setting up the new facility and hiring a CG animation team first.
Flying Bark Madrid will also handle some of Flying Bark’s service work (past clients include Marvel, LEGO and Nickelodeon), as well as developing and producing originals, says CEO Barbara Stephen. The company already has offices in LA and Sydney.
Flying Bark’s biggest project in the pipeline right now is 200% Wolf (pictured), a feature film sequel that will launch in theaters internationally this August. Distributors including Viva Kids (US), StudioCanal (Australia) and Signature (UK) have already pre-bought the 90-minute comedy pic, which continues the story of a pink were-poodle trying to prove he has the heart of a werewolf.
