Five major broadcasters have scooped up K-pop tween series Gangnam Project since its launch in Canada (CBC Gem) and the UK (BBC iPlayer) in March.
Distributor Federation Kids & Family has inked new sales deals for the 10 x 30-minute live-actioner with France Télévisions, ABC Australia, NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland) and TV3 Group (Baltics). Set in Korea and based on an original concept by creator and Pillango Productions founder Sarah Haasz, Gangnam Project is about a Canadian/Korean teen who takes a job teaching English at a K-pop training school in Seoul and ends up becoming a student herself. The drama-led series authentically showcases the music and dance style at the heart of K-pop culture. Composer August Rio, who has made music for mega-group BTS and Justin Bieber, is behind the show’s catchy K-pop tunes.
Pillango (Circuit Breakers) and Aircraft Pictures (Holly Hobbie, Geek Girl) are the producers of Gangnam Project, which also won a Pulcinella Award for Best Live Action and/or Hybrid TV Show at Italy’s Cartoons on the Bay event last week.
