Annual animation pitchfest Cartoon Forum has announced its 2024 lineup of projects, with a total of 75 series/specials making the cut this year from 107 submissions.
Kids & family content represents roughly three-quarters of the selection—nearly 63% of projects fall into the children’s category (which includes tweens and bridge audiences), followed by adult/teen content (23%), preschool (7%) and family (7%). And the total combined budget of all projects, which collectively represent 394 hours of content, is US$381 million (EUR€350.77 million).
Not surprisingly, nearly half of this year’s projects hail from France (36), followed very distantly by Ireland (seven) and Italy (six). And producers from Armenia, Georgia and Moldova will participate as first-time presenters.
Continuing its annual tradition of spotlighting a specific country in the broader European animation industry, Cartoon Forum will focus on Italy this year. And environmental and animal-inspired content seems to be quite prevalent in the 2024 lineup, represented by series like Method Animation’s Taïtikis (52 x 11 minutes), Giant Animation’s Welcome to Rachel’s Pet Parlour (40 x 11 minutes), Movimenti Production’s Green Thumb (52 x 11 minutes), ExtrAnimals (26 x seven minutes) from Little Big Story/Les Astronautes and Nuvole e Strisce’s No Pets! (26 x 11 minutes).
There’s 20 European countries participating as main producers with international co-producers hailing from Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Cameroun, Colombia, Georgia, Israel and Senegal. Co-pros make up roughly a third (25 projects) of this year’s lineup.
