The LA-based developer of Roblox games including Sonic Speed Simulator (pictured), Hot Wheels Open World and TMNT Battle Tycoon has launched a US$5-million Gamefam Creator Fund to back creators making games for Roblox, Fortnite and other user-generated content (UGC) platforms.
The five-year-old company will award US$10,000 to US$100,000-plus per project, and a quarter of the funding is reserved for creators from underrepresented backgrounds. Gamefam staffers will also work with recipients on brand partnerships, game design, roadmap planning and monetization, as well as providing access to the company’s analytics on player behavior and preferences.
Creators from anywhere in the world who are making games for Roblox and Fortnite (all UGC platforms will be considered, but the fund is largely focused on these two) are eligible, but they must submit a working prototype of their game, or have previous experience launching them. And they cannot be full-time employees of any video game company. The online submission portal is open now on Gamefam’s website.
The global UGC platform market was valued at US$5.3 billion in 2023 and could hit US$32.6 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research. Deloitte predicts that more than 10 million indie developers will earn money from UGC platforms this year, to the collective tune of around US$1.5 billion.
