The Canadian kids entertainment industry came out in full force and fancy dress to celebrate standout content at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, which took place in two parts yesterday at Toronto’s CBC headquarters.
Hosted by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television as part of its ongoing Canadian Screen Week event, craft awards were presented in the afternoon, followed by an evening gala focused on the TV program and performance categories.
Spin Master Entertainment’s PAW Patrol scored a total of four awards, including Best Preschool Program or Series. And Wild Kratts, produced by 9 Story Media Group and the Kratt Brothers Company, earned a coveted prize for Best Animated Program or Series.
Meanwhile, Lambur Productions’ The Hardy Boys took home the Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series award, on top of two craft category wins for Best Direction and Best Writing.
It was also a big night for Headspinner Productions’ Aunty B’s House, which won the Shaw Rocket Fund Kids’ Choice Award shortly after creator/star Khalilah Brooks was honored as the year’s Best Lead Performer (Children’s or Youth). Unfortunately, the preschool sitcom—which premiered on CBC Kids last year—has not been funded for a second season.
In factual content, marblemedia’s sports competition series All-Round Champion picked up two trophies—Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series and Best Picture Editing (Children’s or Youth).
