Netflix’s second biannual What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report highlights the value of kids and family to the streamer, accounting for 15% of all viewing on the platform globally.

London-based Moonbug Entertainment’s CoComelon was the most-watched kids series in the second half of 2023 (July to December), racking up nearly 200 million views across its eight seasons. The preschool series’ eighth season alone was the eighth most-watched program overall, with 37.6 million views.

The next most-viewed kids series were season three of Moonbug’s Little Angel (23.1 million views) and season eight of DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse (21.4 million). Other standouts include season one of Bebefinn from The Pinkfong Company (20.3 million), Hasbro’s Peppa Pig season six (19.6 million), and the Spin Master shows Unicorn Academy: Chapter 1 (13.2 million) and PAW Patrol season six (12.7 million).

On the film side, many of Netflix’s top features in the latter half of 2023 were family friendly. The most-viewed kids title was Family Switch from Grey Matter Productions (61.9 million views), followed closely by DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby (61.7 million), then Spin Master’s PAW Patrol: The Movie (59 million), Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (45.3 million) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination and Universal Pictures (44.9 million).

And while it’s not specifically kids content, sports has become an increasingly popular genre for the streamer. Sports-focused programs netted a combined 184 million views, thanks to documentary shows like Beckham and Untold: Johnny Football.
