After teasing the project on social media last week, Netflix has staged an early-access launch of its Nextworld experience on Roblox.
This “digital theme park” is a bustling environment full of characters and quests based on hit shows from the streamer’s library, including teen-favorite thriller Stranger Things and the live-action redux of One Piece.
These popular franchises are featured in survival game Stranger Things: Escape from Hawkins High and an action-packed adventure challenge called One Piece: East Blue Brawls, but the hub also offers minigames and side quests based on Cobra Kai and Miraculous.
Fans can collect in-game currency and wearables/items (like a Demogorgon plushie or a One Piece flag) for decorating their fan pods and inviting friends to come hang out virtually.
The streaming giant is also planning to host Roblox premieres in Nextworld, starting with Jurassic World: Chaos Theory. The first episode of this CG-animated series will air in a viewing area of the game called the Streamship on May 17, a full week before the full series drops on Netflix. The company has been testing this advance screening strategy on Roblox previously, with Spin Master’s Unicorn Academy and Sonic Prime from WildBrain/SEGA.
Full-service studio Barrier Four worked with Netflix on Nextworld, which is available on all platforms that support Roblox.
Walmart, Warner Bros. Discovery and the BBC are among some of the latest world-leading companies to turn to Roblox to reach young audiences. The platform is particularly popular with kids and teens—who make up roughly 58% of its user base, according to Statista.
