A new Dora the Explorer live-action film is in the works

Planned for a day-and-date debut on Paramount+ and linear net Nickelodeon, it marks the second live-action pic for the preschool franchise.

Nickelodeon Studios is developing Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado (working title), a new live-action movie based on one of its longest-running preschool franchises.

The film will launch on streaming (Paramount+) and linear TV (Nickelodeon) simultaneously, but a release date hasn’t been set yet. It follows along as Dora and her cousin Diego search for an ancient and powerful treasure in the Amazonian jungle before their enemies can get their hands on it.

Sol Dorado is the franchise’s second live-action film, following Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019), which grossed US$120 million worldwide against a US$49-million budget. The new pic will feature a fresh cast, and Samantha Lorraine (Kid Stew) is on board to play the Latina explorer, with Alberto Belli (The Naughty Nine) attached to direct, and J.T. Billings (Are You Afraid of the Dark?) penning the script.

Nick Animation’s CG-animated Dora reboot (26 x 11 minutes) scored a season two renewal last month, coinciding with its debut on Paramount+. And in other recent brand news, Nick is gearing up to roll out a 10-episode podcast called Dora’s Recipe for Adventure this month, along with a series of Goodnight Bedtime Stories (20 episodes) featuring Dora and Boots among other characters.
