Moonbug lays off more staff

A development producer and production coordinator were included in this round of cuts, which Moonbug is calling a "small reduction" of its workforce.

Moonbug has implemented another modest round of layoffs as part of an effort to set itself up for sustained growth and scale.

The company declined to specify how many people were let go and which teams were affected. But staffers including producer Matthias Sundberg, development producer Hillary Powell and production coordinator Tobias Soar shared on LinkedIn last week that they had been laid off.

Moonbug made a first round of cuts back in November, eliminating several CoComelon (pictured) writers and designers. And then in February, the company closed Oddbods studio One Animation in Singapore, resulting in additional layoffs. These reductions are part of a strategy to focus Moonbug’s resources on pre- and post-production, and outsource the rest of its animation work to third parties.

In recent months, Moonbug has been hiring and promoting to fill other jobs at the company, including bringing in ex-Disney exec Courtney Holt in February as its first-ever global head of music to open up a new revenue stream. And Casey Splinter was promoted from associate director to director of channels and programming in March to manage the distribution and identity of Moonbug’s popular YouTube and linear channels.
