The nominee lists for the Peabody Awards are out, and some of this year’s buzziest kids brands have made the cut.
Peabody revealed its 2024 nominees in two parts this week, with yesterday’s batch covering the Arts, Children’s and Interactive & Immersive categories. (The shortlists for News Media, Documentaries and Radio/Podcasting were announced on Wednesday.)
Three 2D-animated series have been recognized in the Children’s category. First up is Ludo Studios’ Australian preschool sensation Bluey (ABC Australia/BBC/Disney+), which just wrapped up its third season with a high-profile finale special. Annie-winning Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (Disney Channel) from Marvel Animation, Disney TVA and Cinema Gypsy has also been shortlisted, and so has CN Studios’ offbeat comedy Summer Camp Island (Cartoon Network), which wrapped up last fall after a five-year run.
The Interactive & Immersive category—which launched last year to honor content from streams like social media, AR and other emerging mediums—gave a nod to Reimagined. This VR animated series from Very Cavaliere Productions and Meta Quest spotlights lesser-known folklore and fables.
Meanwhile, Prime Video’s Judy Blume Forever scored a nomination in the Arts category. This documentary explores the legacy of Blume as a prominent author of classic kidlit and YA novels such as Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret (1970) and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (1972).
A total of 68 nominees made the cut for the 84th edition of the Peabody Awards, out of more than 1,100 submitted entries. The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia runs this prestigious television awards program and will host its ceremony on June 9 at LA’s Beverly Wilshire Hotel. But the winners will be announced a month earlier on May 9.
