Crunchyroll to roll out Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, Japan's biggest-earning 2024 movie worldwide; and AVOD streamer Happy Kids acquires 140 hours of Pokémon animation

  • Crunchyroll has picked up North American and select international distribution rights to anime volleyball drama Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle (pictured). The pic is Japan’s biggest theatrical release this year to date, and has earned US$60 million there since its February 15 premiere. Launchuing in North American theaters on May 31, thanks to Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, it extends the story of a bestselling manga and four-season TV series adaptation.

    Other international rollouts are planned through June 27 in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the UK, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany.

  • Future Today has picked up more than 140 hours of classic Pokémon content spanning the franchise’s XY, XY Kalos Quest and XYZ series for its Happy Kids AVOD streaming service. This brings the platform’s offering up to more than 110,000 titles from 150-plus content partners.
