MINISO opens a flagship Barbie store in Malaysia

The 200-square-meter location has more than 3,000 lifestyle items in stock, and features a fragrance area where customers can try out a new range of Barbie cosmetics and perfumes.

Chinese lifestyle retailer MINISO has partnered with Mattel to design and launch its first Barbie-themed store in Malaysia. 

Featuring more than 3,000 SKUs, the 200-square-meter storefront opened its doors last week in the Berjaya Times Square mall in Kuala Lumpur. On its shelves are more than 100 Barbie-branded items spanning stickers, stationery, dolls, fashion, accessories and bags. The store also features a dedicated fragrance area where consumers can test out a new line of Barbie perfumes and cosmetics. 

In addition to the Barbie merch, MINISO’s latest branded emporium will carry several Disney, Sanrio, Pokémon and Care Bears collections it manufactures under exclusive license for its own stores. 

The retailer currently operates more than 1,300 outlets across Asia (excluding China) and has plans to open up to 650 more worldwide in 2024. Within the past year, MINISO has launched licensed flagship stores in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK. And next month will see the company cut the ribbon on a new Hello Kitty-themed shop in New Jersey’s American Dream Mall.
