Aardman scores two key series renewals

EXCLUSIVE: BBC and Germany’s WDR have commissioned Shaun the Sheep season seven, while Very Small Creatures heads into a third inning greenlit by Sky Kids.
March 27, 2024

CBBC and German public broadcaster WDR have renewed Aardman’s popular stop-motion series Shaun the Sheep (pictured) for a seventh season that will deliver in 2025, and the studio has already inked presales with ABC (Australia), SVT (Sweden), YLE (Finland), DR TV (Denmark), VRT Ketnet (Belgium) and NRK (Norway).

Bringing the show up to 190 seven-minute episodes, this latest batch of hijinks kicks off from seemingly mundane events like a tractor getting stuck in the mud and Shaun making a wish.  Shaun the Sheep is currently airing in 170 countries worldwide, according to Aardman.

Meanwhile, Sky Kids has renewed the studio’s Very Small Creatures preschool series for a third season. This Morph spinoff has been gaining momentum steadily since premiering in 2022 and is now available on more than 30 broadcasters around the globe. Its new season (20 x three minutes) is set to launch in late 2024.
