Former Zee Entertainment programming director Kalpana Malviya has joined full-service studio Amazing Animation in Mumbai as executive director of international, with the remit of taking the company global.
Based in New York, Malviya is working to secure clients and sign production partnerships with companies outside of India. Amazing Animation does CG and 2D animation as well as visual effects, with offices in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Founded by producer Asif Khan in 2021, its credits include work on Cosmos-Maya’s children’s series Dabangg (Cartoon Network), Vir: The Robot Boy and Atchoo.
Malviya joins Amazing after a five-year stint at producer and broadcaster Zee Entertainment Americas in New York, where she was a senior director of programming and worked as an executive producer on unscripted series including Zee Made in America and America’s Smartest Family.
Amazing’s hire fits into India’s broader effort to position itself as a strong production partner for international businesses. Examples include constructing the IMAGE Tower in Hyderabad, which will have 1.6 million square feet dedicated to production companies (enough to fit around 20,000 people) when it opens at the end of 2024. And the government also increased its production incentive to 40% (up from 30%) in November, in a bid to attract more medium- and large-budget international films.
