Paramount Game Studios is joining a growing crowd of toycos and studios launching games in Roblox, bringing its first Avatar: The Last Airbender title to the platform this summer.
The game lets players create element-controlling avatars and then battle it out against other users on the platform. Texas-based Looty Games developed the RPG with backing from the Roblox Creator Fund, which supports multiplayer games with strong plans for retention, monetization and live operations (the continual addition of new updates and features).
More game details and an official title will be announced in the coming months.
Avatar: The Last Airbender first hit the market as an animated series that ran from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon (61 episodes). Paramount then translated that success into books—its Last Airbender graphic novel series has sold more than three million copies worldwide. All told, the brand has generated US$65 million in global retail sales since 2015.
Even more eyeballs are on the property these days, thanks to the new Netflix live-action series that premiered on February 22 and has already been renewed for two more seasons.
Paramount has already tested the Roblox waters by licensing Gamefam to create SpongeBob Simulator and TMNT Battle Tycoon experiences that have each racked up 27 million visits on the platform.
