Netflix has renewed its live-action retake of Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons, and the third will close out the action-adventure series. As of press time, there were no details available about how many new episodes were ordered.
Based on Nickelodeon’s same-name 2D-animated toon (2005 to 2008), which also wrapped up after three seasons (61 x 22 minutes), Avatar follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy who wakes up after being frozen in ice for more than a century. On an epic journey with his friends Katara and Sokka, Aang must learn to master the elements of air, fire, water and earth in order to defeat the evil Firelord Ozai and restore balance to the world.
Avatar season one (eight x 24 minutes) had a February 22 debut on the streamer, where it racked up 41.1 million views in just 11 days and quickly claimed the number-one spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV List. Globally, the series was ranked number-one in 76 countries following its launch.
