Canada’s Boat Rocker Media has acquired distribution rights in all territories except the UK to Olga Da Polga, a preschool series based on another vintage publishing franchise created by Paddington author Michael Bond.
Produced by Glasgow-based Maramedia, this quirky 2D-animated/live-action show was greenlit by CBeebies in July 2022 and then renewed for a second season last October. The IP dates back to 1971, when the first of 19 books was published by Oxford University Press, which continued to roll out new titles until 2002. Olga Da Polga is one the late author’s longest-running book series behind Paddington Bear (1958 to 2017) and Monsieur Pamplemousse (1983 to 2015).
Maramedia’s TV series stars a guinea pig with an active imagination who can’t help spinning tall tales to spice up her more mundane life as a family pet.
Boat Rocker will distribute both seasons (28 x 11 minutes) of Olga to international buyers for the first time. And it joins kids and family shows such as Daniel Spellbound (Netflix), The Next Step (CBBC and YTV) and Dino Ranch (CBC Kids and Disney Junior) in the company’s catalogue.
