The organizers of the British Animation Awards have unveiled the TV shows and films that are shortlisted this year, and Lupus Films and Aardman Animations are out in front.
Three of the four nominated entries in the Best Children’s Series category air on ITV: Eagle vs Bat’s The Sound Collector—Harp Strings, Illuminated Film Company’s The Rubbish World of Dave Spud—Moonbreaker and Aardman’s Lloyd of the Flies. And rounding out this shortlist is Milkshake’s Tweedy and Fluff from Second Home Studios.
In the Best Children’s Preschool category, the nominees are Studio AKA’s Hey Duggee, Studio Canal’s The Adventures of Paddington, Aardman’s The Very Small Creatures and Odo from Sixteen South.
Shortlisted in the Children’s Choice Award category—where students from a primary school in Bristol vote to determine the winner—are Blink Industries’ Dead End: Paranormal Park, BBC Studios/Tencent Video’s Supertato, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe’s The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe—The Prince and the Valiant Quest and Blue Zoo’s Lego City—No Limits (episode 6).
The Best International Animated Series award will be a battle between DeAPlaneta’s Milo, Imagine Kids+Family’s The Tiny Chef Show, Triggerfish’s Supa Team 4 and an adult-skewing toon called Captain Fall from Boulder Media.
And in the theatrical categories, this year’s Best Feature Film nominees are Aardman’s Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Parcel of Rogues’ A Cat Called Dom, Lupus Films’ Kensuke’s Kingdom, Cartoon Saloon/Dog Ear’s Puffin Rock and the New Friends and Sky Cinema’s The Amazing Maurice.
London-based Lupus Films has a total of seven nominations, including nods in the Best Long-Form Animation (for Mog’s Christmas, pictured above) and Best Original Music categories. And Aardman is close behind with five, with Lloyd of the Flies also landing on the Writer’s Award shortlist.
All of this year’s winners will be announced at a March 7 awards ceremony to be held at BFI Southbank in London. A full list of nominees is available on the BAA’s website.
