Iceland’s Tulipop Studios is developing three new 30-minute specials based on its flagship series Tulipop Tales (pictured), with delivery set for December 2025.
RÚV (Iceland), NRK (Norway), SVT (Sweden), DR TV (Denmark) and Svenska YLE (Finland) have ordered this Tulipop Seasons package, and each special will center around a different time of year (winter, spring and fall). Italy’s The Animation Band is attached to produce with Tulipop Studios’ Helga Arnadottir.
Inspired by Icelandic folklore and fairytales, Tulipop originated as a lifestyle brand created by illustrator Signy Kolbeinsdottir in 2010. It was successful in consumer products categories such as toys, apparel, homeware and books, and in 2017, the brand made the leap into 2D-animated shorts that were featured on its official YouTube channel (15,000 subscribers).
More recently, Tulipop Studios produced a 52 x seven-minute, 2D-animated series called Tulipop Tales for four- to six-year-olds. This toon made its domestic debut in 2022 on Icelandic streamer Siminn, as well as on international channels including NRK and YLE. Over the next few months, the series will also roll out on MBC (Middle East), Télé-Québec (Canada) and Showmax (South Africa).
