Radio Flyer, the 107-year-old toyco behind the iconic Little Red Wagon, is rolling into content with the launch of Radio Flyer Studios.

This new division is focused on producing digital-first animated content that spotlights family, play and the outdoors, with Carrie Miller (pictured at top) and Deborah Frank running the show.

As head of studio, Miller is in charge of business strategy, development, production and content distribution. She previously worked at Frederator Networks for almost 15 years, most recently as VP of digital production and programming, and projects she contributed to there include Adventure Time, Bee and Puppycat and Bravest Warrior. Prior to joining Radio Flyer, Miller was COO of Augenblick Studios, which made short-form series City Island for PBS KIDS and The Jellies for Adult Swim.

Frank will serve as an executive producer at Radio Flyer Studios, managing development and production. She also hails from Augenblick, where she was a supervising producer on City Island. But before that, she worked as a producer at GBH Kids (Work it Out Wombats!, Arthur) and Duolingo.

Radio Flyer Studios’ first effort will be creating a self-financed digital-first series, a spokesperson tellsĀ Kidscreen. The studio is open to conversations around distribution, and looking to talk with companies about partnerships and collaborations.

Radio Flyer has dabbled in animation before, producing a five-minute short film called Taking Flight in 2016 with Moonbot Studios that has racked up 6.5 million views on YouTube. It also went on to win a Daytime Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program.

Radio Flyer is keen to expand its focus from making ride-on toys to providing brand-led experiences for families, and that’s the goal of the new studio. The company also opened its first-ever retail store in Chicago last November.
