Chinese media giant bilibili is expanding the reach of its preschool comedy series Reggie Rex! with two broadcast deals.
Korean linear channel Daewon TV has picked up the 104 x six-minute CG-animated toon to air later this month and multiple VOD platforms in the region (including JBOX and TVING) have picked up streaming rights that will kick in later. Taiwan’s Momo TV will be premiering the show in 2024, and bilibili is close to finalizing a deal in Japan, which should be announced in the new year.
Reggie Rex! stars a young pescatarian T-Rex who wanders around a prehistoric world with his dino pals learning curriculum-based and social-emotional lessons. Developed by New York-based Baboon Animation (Gigantosaurus), which is also handling English dubbing for international markets, the series is an adaptation of a bestselling 2003 book called You Look Yummy! by Tatsuya Miyanishi. POPLAR Publishing has sold more than 24 million copies of the title to date.
Reggie Rex! premiered in China this past August on bilibili’s eponymous flagship video-sharing website, which has more than 341 million active monthly users. It’s also airing on several other leading platforms in China, such as linear channel BRTV KAKU and streamers Mango TV, YOUKU and iQIYI. A second season of the toon will roll out domestically in 2024.
