Chinese animation studio Fantawild Animation has signed Spain’s DeAPlaneta Entertainment to manage media and digital rights in Europe, North America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Australia and New Zealand for its latest series Adventurer Carly (52 x 13 minutes, pictured).
The CG-animated show for kids ages six to 11 launched domestically this year on multiple Chinese channels (Golden Eagle Cartoon, Jiajia Cartoon, KAKU Children, Youman Cartoon) and streaming platforms (Tencent Video, iQiyi, Youku, Mango TV). According to a release, it has generated strong ratings across the board, including ranking first on the Children’s Program Broadcasting index for three consecutive weeks.
Although it has only aired in China so far, Adventurer Carly is already generating some global buzz. It was the most-watched title in terms of unique views at this year’s MIP Junior screenings, and Fantawild would like to stage a rollout in Western territories sometime next year.
Adventurer Carly is about a young girl who knows her way around archeology and wilderness survival. Her skills are put to the test when she and her friends embark on a journey to find her missing father.
This new business move plays into DeAPlaneta’s latest strategy to co-produce or manage rights for Asian content with international potential. Last month, the company inked a deal to distribute anime series Bugsbot Ignition (26 x 22 minutes) and short-form spinoff Bugsbot G (15 x five minutes) from South Korea’s Cocktail Media outside of Asia.
