Germany’s Studio 100 Media has bought a stake in 3Doubles Producciones, an animation studio based in the Canary Islands. The size and value of the investment has not been disclosed.
The two companies already have a history of co-producing kids feature films together, such as Giants of La Mancha and Mia and Me: The Hero of Centopia. Formalizing the partnership with this buy-in is “an important next step” in growing Studio 100’s slate of European content, says CEO Martin Krieger.
Studio 100, 3Doubles and Viva Pictures—an LA-based distributor that acquired a minority stake in 3Doubles this past June—will collaborate to produce new feature films and series, with Studio 100 selling this content internationally, and Viva managing North American rights.
The Canary Islands offers several screen sector incentives—such as a generous tax rebate of up to 54% for foreign productions—that have already attracted other animation companies to the region, including Amuse Animation, which opened a studio there in 2018.
