Incredible Film has picked up worldwide distribution rights to an upcoming movie called Miss Vomit and The Magical Ring (working title), which is an adaptation of a popular Dutch children’s book.
Targeting the six to 12 demo, the live-action flick (pictured) will hit theaters in the Netherlands on December 20.
Hilversum-based prodco AM Pictures (Fashion Chicks) produced Miss Vomit, which is about a pair of young students dealing with a daunting new head teacher at their school. Aram van de Rest (St Nicholas & the Golden Horseshoe) directed the feature with a script from Michiel Peereboom (Silverstar).
The project is based on Carry Slee’s Juf Braaksel en de magische ring (2018), which is part of a six-book series printed and distributed by Dutch publisher Overamstel Uitgevers. Slee is a prominent children’s author in the Netherlands who has written more than 80 books that have collectively sold upwards of five million copies. Her work—which often tackles tough topics like bullying and addiction from an adolescent perspective—has been adapted eight times before into teen-skewing movies like Afblijven (2006) and Timboektoe (2007).
Incredible Film already represents Dutch kids films such as Tummy Tom and The Lost Teddy Bear and Lioness, but it has also picked up several homegrown TV series this year, including live-actioners Katy Stole the Chickens (five x 10 minutes) and SAID & ANNA (16 x 6.5 minutes), the latter of which is premiering at MIP Junior this month.
