Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment and BBC Studios Kids & Family have partnered to expand the Odd Squad franchise’s presence across the pond.
Odd Squad UK (12 x 30 minutes) is an official treaty co-production between Sinking Ship and the BBC’s youth-focused production arm. It’s currently shooting in the UK with a predominantly British cast, and will premiere in 2024.
The new version builds on the regional success of the original Odd Squad series, which has scored consistently high ratings on CBBC, according to a release. Produced by Sinking Ship and Fred Rogers Productions for PBS KIDS and TVOKids, Odd Squad launched in 2014 and has been sold in more than 150 countries to date.
Odd Squad UK is produced in association with CBBC, PBS KIDS, TVOKids and Radio-Canada. Sinking Ship will distribute the series globally outside of the US, where Fred Rogers Productions holds the sales rights.
Since its launch, Odd Squad has won multiple Emmys and spawned more than 114 half-hour episodes. The brand also now encompasses a feature film, digital games and shorts, a podcast, publishing and a consumer products program.
